Mission Statement
Our mission is to serve children and youth in the community by offering a safe, nurturing, and positive environment and structured activities. We aim to provide them with a sense of self-esteem as well as establish teamwork that will challenge them, and lead to personal achievements along with the opportunity to increase responsibility. The values and principles taught in the program would prepare them for a positive future to become fully functioning and productive members of society.
About This Cause
L.O.O.P. strives to provide a balanced program to support physical, emotional and spiritual development in the children and youth throughout the community. L.O.O.P. has been consistently in operation since 2002, and provides services to at risk community youth, specifically supporting socially economically challenged children in Dauphin County, PA, concentrating on the City of Harrisburg. An average of 350 children and youth participating per week. During the school year L.O.O.P. provides after school activities for children and youth, from age 6 to 18 years of age 6pm to 9pm. During the summer, when school is not in session, programs shift to accommodate outdoor activities and the longer daylight hours, with activities offered Monday through Friday from 6pm to 10pm. Current activities provided throughout the year include but are not limited to the following: After-school homework assistance, tutoring, Mentoring sessions on various subject matters such as life lessons with some topics covering career choices, nutrition, drug awareness, prevention and intervention, self-esteem. Teaching the value and appreciation for the diversity. Teach the importance of hygiene, healthy eating habits, regular exercise and mental health. Recreational programs, such as sports opportunities provided to the children to encourage exercise, establish a sense of teamwork, providing positive family centered activities. This also provides an excellent teaching tool developing perseverance and self-discipline. In addition, one-on-one mentoring is provided as well as educational, recreational and intervention/prevention, anti-bullying prevention and intervention. Saturdays, throughout the year, are reserved for special activities including field trips.
