Mission Statement

Portland Community Football Club (PCFC) provides access to high-quality, affordable club soccer for low-income, under-resourced, and marginalized youth across Portland, including LGBTQIA+, Black, Brown, Latinx, immigrants, and refugees. PCFC utilizes a ‘whole-athlete’ model that includes nutritional support, social-service referrals, and social-emotional care to help hundreds of our youth and their family members to thrive.

About This Cause

PCFC was founded in 2013 to help address the inequities and impacts on marginalized youth and families across Portland. Our programs were originally designed to provide high-quality athletic training for low-income youth who did not have access to the exclusive, elite-level opportunities available to well-resourced families. PCFC has always viewed its participants through a “whole child” lens, but the onset of the pandemic in 2020 rapidly increased the need for additional wraparound support. In addition to the inequities our youth and families were already experiencing related to poverty, they were now confronted by intensified emotional, educational, and nutritional challenges. Our home field and organizational hub are in NE Portland in the Cully Neighborhood, one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse parts of Multnomah County. Many of our youth, staff, and board members reside. We are proud of our trust in the communities we serve, as our impact is present on and off the field. Based on parent and player feedback, we hear our youth have higher rates of school attendance, higher grades, and present lower behavioral issues since joining PCFC. PCFC is one of the first competitive youth soccer club programs to have an open acceptance policy for LBGTQ+ players, families, and staff. We strongly believe that no youth, parent or coach should ever feel excluded or discriminated against based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Our athletes come from communities where soccer is more than a game, it’s a way of life. We’ve seen this passion bring together groups of players with little else in common to succeed as a team. It’s also why supporting diversity and inclusivity are the very core of who we are as an organization. Please take a moment, and watch our Story: https://vimeo.com/361216709
