Mission Statement
The mission of Orange Arrow is to coach young student athletes to aim for success off the field.
About This Cause
Orange Arrow (OA) works with youth between the ages of 10-13 to lay the foundational skill set needed by any young person, with a focus on student athletes. The vision for OA is to be a nation-wide organization that impacts millions of student-athletes through several key components: 1) our interactive, sports-themed curriculum; 2) off-the-field coaches who teach the curriculum and are current or former college athletes that can relate to the students in multiple ways; 3) purposefully diverse participants who engage in exposure experiences to break down silos between races. Short-Term Outcomes: 1. Overtime Program participants will advance their knowledge of leadership, decorum, peer coaching, arts & culture, entrepreneurship, financial management, and careers. 2. Overtime Program participants will gain confidence and advance their leadership potential. 3. Overtime Program participants will improve their knowledge of and attitudes towards health and hygiene. 4. Overtime Program participants will gain understanding and interest in different cultural groups and cultural experiences. 5. Older student-athletes will become peer mentors to younger student-athletes. Long-Term Outcomes: 1. Overtime Program participants will improve attendance and behavior at school. 2. Through partnerships and increased awareness, Orange Arrow will increase its capacity to serve youth in Pittsburgh and around the country. 3. Former Overtime Program participants will reach their full potential as adults. 4. Former Overtime Program participants will become strong community members and Pittsburgh communities will benefit from more contributing citizens by creating a positive environment for student-athletes, families and neighborhoods, promoting positive peer influences, and modeling for youth and families how to sustain a supportive community that can work together for change. These outcomes are based on the assumptions that Orange Arrow’s curriculum, activities and model combined with cultural experiences can jumpstart life-long changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behavior.
