Mission Statement

Young Invincibles’ mission is to amplify the voices of young adults in the political process and expand economic opportunity for our generation.

About This Cause

Young Invincibles is a national nonpartisan policy advocacy and research organization focusing on four key issue areas across our federal and state policy work: health care, higher education, workforce & finances, and civic engagement. We are committed to expanding economic opportunity for young adults ages 18 to 34 and ensuring that our perspective is heard wherever decisions about our collective future are being made. Our programs in California, Texas, Colorado, Illinois, and New York have increased grant aid for low-income college students, expanded funding for community colleges, and ensured undocumented students can access in-state tuition. YI trains young adults ages 18 to 34 who have low income and have had less power or privilege, specifically people of color and low-income young adults, in advocating for policy change to improve their lives and communities. YI was founded by a group of students in the summer of 2009, motivated by the recognition that young people’s voices should be heard in the debate over health care reform. We began by providing the facts about barriers young adults face in affording quality health insurance and asking our peers to share their stories. We believed in our generation’s capacity to stand up and make itself heard, and as our work expanded, the opportunity became more apparent: young people had even more to share. They were eager to organize friends, educate the public about new health insurance options, and develop policy solutions informed by their everyday experiences. In the years since, YI has grown from a group run out of a school cafeteria to a national organization with offices across the country. YI is an organization dedicated to policy change for young people – by young people. We focus on the intersection of a range of issue areas affecting young adults’ ability to achieve economic stability: health care, higher education, workforce & finances, and civic engagement. Young adults have historically been at the forefront of social change, and they are now the largest voting bloc in the country. Our focus is on ensuring young communities with the least access to political and economic power have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. Young people have the power to change hearts and minds and drive policy change by grounding their advocacy in their lived experiences, and our programs give them the skills and leadership development to do this. Our programs in California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Texas have implemented strong consumer protections for health insurance plans for millions of young adults, protected funding for the federal Pell Grant Program, and much more. YI and tens of thousands of young adults have achieved key federal and state policy victories. We have helped thousands to enroll in affordable, quality health insurance, gain workforce development opportunities, and expand young adults’ access to affordable higher education.
