Mission Statement
Ayudando Latinos A Soñar is dedicated to giving creative expression to Latino youth, families and farmworkers of Half Moon Bay to celebrate identity and preserve the rich cultures, traditions and values of Mexico and Latin America through our weekly programs of cultural arts, education, social justice advocacy and farmworker outreach. ALAS is committed to inspiring the community through our cultural arts programs of Ballet Folklorico Tonantzin and Mariachi Media Luna. We are building bridges towards higher education for our children through our tutoring and leadership program. As we all live under the same moon, we believe in a social justice model of advocacy for immigrant and human rights. We value each child, individual and family that is part of ALAS. Our motto, tu lucha es mi lucha defines our belief that we are here to join in the struggle to soar above and be a program where all cultures can come together to dream.
About This Cause
ALAS work is committed to supporting farmworkers of the North Coast, youth, families and community. Our programs includes 1) Cultural Arts programming 2) Mental Health and Wrap Around Case Management 3) Education 4) Farmworker Outreach 5) Immigration and Social Justice Advocacy ALAS is invested in culture, mental health support, immigration, farmworker outreach and social justice advocacy as frameworks to create healing spaces for our immigrant community. Our services are free to the community, including our culturally bilingual counseling services that have opened access and reduced stigma to mental health. For our farmworkers of the Coast, we provide weekly visits to farms, have partnered with USF to provide educational programs at the ranches (onsite) for children living in farmworker housing. Our ALAS team is providing weekly food delivery to our farmworkers as well as additional resources they need. We also are developing mental health counseling practices for farmworkers, particularly during COVID as so many have been impacted. In addition ALAS has recently begun a pop up food pantry during COVID as many have had significant loss of income and resources. In addition we have been providing ongoing economic support for individuals during crisis. ALAS arts programs work with our youth to inspire artistic expression through Ballet Folklorico, Mariachi and Drumming. We are proud to see our youth rise as leaders becoming visible in an often invisible space. ALAS is about building community and growing natural leadership to strengthen our community of the Coast and work together to grow dreams for our Latino community.
