Mission Statement
BRAVO Youth Orchestras is a non-profit founded in 2013 to improve outcomes of underserved youth through intensive orchestral music education. BRAVO is affiliated with the international movement, El Sistema, which started in Venezuela in 1975 using music as a tool for social change. El Sistema now serves over 500,000 children each year in Venezuela and has inspired an international movement in over 55 countries, including more than 100 programs in the US. BRAVO is the first in Oregon. Our first program, BRAVO Rosa Parks, serves nearly 200 students at Portland's poorest public school, with over 95% of students in poverty and over 18 languages spoken. Our In-School Preschool program serves 150 students ages 1-5. Our After-school String Orchestra and Chorus serves over 130 students in 5 schools in grades 2-9 (2 hrs a day, 5 days a week).
