Mission Statement

The Vietnam Heritage Center is dedicated to promoting the rich traditions and language of Vietnam. Our mission is to provide support for the Vietnamese immigrant community while educating the general public and local community on Vietnamese language and culture. We strive to be a resource for all to learn about and celebrate Vietnamese lifestyles and customs.

About This Cause

FLAGSHIP PROJECT: VIETNAMESE CLASSES Vietnam Heritage Center ("VHC"), based in New York City, offers classes to children 6-12 years old and to adults to learn the Vietnamese language, cultural milestones, and more! Adults advancing their written Vietnamese will learn grammar, vocabulary, and read themed materials. CULTURAL EVENTS: * Tết (Vietnamese Lunar New Year): The most popular holiday is an annual event that has been held at the New-York Historical Society since 2018. Performances include singing, dancing, and Áo Dài fashion show. Activities include card-making, sampling holiday food, a fortune exchange, a lì xì (red envelopes) gift-giving procession for children. * Tết Trung Thu (Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival): The second most important Vietnamese holiday is known as a children’s holiday and has been held at Grace Church School since 2017. Activities include lantern making, playing Vietnamese traditional games, performing an interactive folktale, and ending with a lantern procession. FUTURE PROJECTS: * A dance group that can perform múa, or Vietnamese traditional dance, called the Pretty Fan Girls, to showcase Vietnamese music through fan or conical hat dances. * Maintaining a network of organizations in order to foster a Vietnamese community, work together, and garner support for each other. * Create a professional community of mentors and proteges for advice, guidance and insight into various careers * Connecting the local Vietnamese community to available and beneficial programs offered by the government or other organizations (U.S. Census, IRS, voting rights) * Assisting the Vietnamese people in the review of forms such as health care or public assistance; * Provide free limited legal services, such as reviewing U.S. immigration applications or offering referrals to other free or low-cost legal services that may be helpful.
