IMPROVE YOUR TOMORROW

Sacramento, California, 95815 United States

Mission Statement

Improve Your Tomorrow’s (IYT’s) mission is to increase the number of young men of color (African-American, Latinx, Asian, and two or more races) to attend and graduate from colleges and universities. The organization's vision is a nation in which men of color are over-represented in higher education, under-represented in criminal justice system and leaders in their community.

About This Cause

Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT) is a nationally expanding nonprofit organization with a mission to increase the number of young men of color who attend and graduate from colleges and universities. Founded in Sacramento, IYT serves over 5,000 students annually with a 12-year, wraparound support model spanning middle school through college and into career. Our approach combines culturally responsive mentorship, academic support, mental health services, and workforce development to help young men of color thrive in school and life. IYT’s work is grounded in a vision of equity and opportunity. We believe that with the right support, young men of color can lead in classrooms, boardrooms, and communities across the nation. Our model has been proven to improve academic outcomes, reduce chronic absenteeism, and significantly increase college-going rates, particularly for students who enter the program with GPAs below 2.0, face behavioral challenges, or are off track to graduate. Our programming includes: College Tours: IYT offers exposure to college campuses across the country, helping students envision their future and build confidence. Many tours include direct connections to guaranteed admission pathways and scholarships. The College Success Center (CSC): Located in Sacramento, the CSC is a building for youth development, offering tutoring, college advising, career prep workshops, mental health services, and a safe space for young men of color to belong and grow. Mentorship: Our signature near-peer mentorship model connects students with IYT-trained mentors—often alumni or college students—who provide culturally relevant guidance, academic accountability, and long-term relationship building. Guaranteed Admission Pathways: IYT has partnered with colleges and universities to establish guaranteed admissions and financial aid for eligible IYT members—removing systemic barriers to higher education access. Workforce Development: From paid internships to professional skill-building and job placement support, IYT helps prepare students for life beyond college through partnerships with employers and career exposure experiences. Mental Health Support: Wellness services are integrated across our programming and are designed to reflect the lived experiences and cultural identities of young men of color, addressing trauma, building resilience, and promoting emotional well-being. Violence Prevention & Intervention: Through mentorship, structured programming, and trusted adult relationships, IYT serves as a stabilizing force in communities impacted by violence, supporting youth before they fall through the cracks. National Expansion: IYT is scaling our impact through active partnerships and planning grants in states such as Nevada, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Washington D.C. Our goal is to bring our proven College Academy model to young men of color across the nation. Despite strong outcomes and community demand, IYT has faced major funding challenges due to the sudden termination of all AmeriCorps contracts, a program that previously supported our mentor workforce. In this shifting political climate, local, corporate, and individual support is more critical than ever to sustain and grow our impact. Your partnership helps us close opportunity gaps, foster academic excellence, and build a generation of changemakers ready to lead their communities forward.
