Mission Statement

Imagine a world without food waste. Many instances of food waste are preventable or salvageable. Forty percent of the food produced in the U.S. is wasted, while one in seven Americans is food insecure. Rescuing just 30% of this wasted food is enough to feed all food-insecure Americans. Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) redistributes excess food to people experiencing food insecurity, thereby reducing the number of food-insecure individuals nationwide

About This Cause

Started in 2013, Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is an innovative food rescue organization that utilizes technology to securely and efficiently deliver food from providers to those who experience hunger. We have successfully rescued over 15 million pounds of food, providing 13.5 million meals to people in cities across America. In addition, we’ve prevented over 35 million pounds of harmful greenhouse gas emissions from harming our atmosphere. Through our Ruby on Rails Web Application, RLC coordinates transportation and engages community members to bring excess food from restaurants, businesses, warehouses, and even stadiums to people who need it the most. Led by a dedicated group of leaders called Lead Rescuers, volunteers take unsold products that food vendors would otherwise throw out at the end of the day and deliver them to local nonprofit organizations. Working together, we can ensure that only hunger is left behind!
