Mission Statement

Family Housing Network also know as Faith Family Hospitality provides shelter and support to families experiencing homelessness in the Fort Collins area. Over 30 different faith communities provide overnight shelter to four families at a time on a rotating week by week basis. In addition to overnight shelter, FHN provides a day center six days per week and case management to overcome homelessness. In the near future, another program will provide short term bridge housing for seven additional families.

About This Cause

FHN/FFH began serving families in January 2012 with emergency overnight shelter in a dozen congregation's venues. Since that time, the program has grown to 32 congregations (15 host/17 support). They work together to provide dinner, overnight shelter and breakfast each day in their churches/venues. Usually, families move each Sunday to a new host congregation. During the COVID 19 pandemic, the rotation has ceased, families are housed in ONE location and the volunteer teams rotate each week. During the day, families shelter at the FHN Day Center. Previously, FHN rented space at the Fort Collins Mennonite Fellowship. On June 15, 2020, a new day center opened. In the new 4,000 square foot space, families are provided a safe, kid-friendly space where they can multitask each week, Monday through Saturday. They can shower, wash laundry, access play and nap areas for children and cook their lunch meal as a family while they search for employment and housing. During the COVID 19 pandemic, a large room was converted into a "Remote Learning Site" for school aged children to attend school without disruptions while socially distancing from other kids. Case management provides access to necessary resources for families through warm referrals to appropriate partners to regain their self-sufficiency, find housing and stabilize their families. Some families need more support over a longer time period to overcome the issues they encountered which culminated in them becoming homeless. So a new program will open in 2021. Bridge housing at the "Sherwood House" will allow seven more families time to work on their issues, pay off outstanding debt (which may be a barrier to obtaining new housing) and continue to work with a case manager and develop a long-term plan for self-sufficiency. Between the overnight program and bridge housing, FFH will be providing 11 of the community's 15 shelter rooms for families. In the past twelve months, the rate of families moving into housing has increased from 68% to 86% and 94% of adults in the program found employment. Community support is vital to the work at FHN/FFH. Needy families need a hand up! FHN's staff and over 1,300 volunteers provide that hand up at a time when they are at their lowest. "You saved my life. Your belief in me made me believe in me too. I can do this!" This father of five had lost his confidence in being able to provide for his family. Today he is working full time and waiting on approval for a four bedroom home. He can do this. He is good father who lost his belief in himself. It is renewed.
