Mission Statement
Alma Backyard Farms (Alma) creates dynamic opportunities through urban farming for community empowerment. The mission of Alma is to re-claim lives of the formerly incarcerated, re-purpose urban land into productive urban farm plots, and re-imagine disenfranchised communities as a place of empowerment.
About This Cause
Rooted in restorative justice and environmental stewardship, Alma proposes real solutions to the challenges of prisoner re- entry and food insecurity plaguing low-income neighborhoods. Alma creates opportunities for the previously incarcerated to re-enter as agents of building food security, safety and a compassionate community. Alma’s four primary programs; Urban Agriculture Training, Re-Connect Youth, Food Sharing Initiative, and Social Enterprise create opportunities to meet the essential needs of disadvantaged communities.
