Mission Statement
Our mission is to empower students, particularly those who have experienced significant adversity, including involvement or risk of involvement in child welfare and/or other social service systems with the requisite academic, social, emotional and life skills to be successful in college, career and community. In addition, we aim to create an outstanding school that attracts, supports, and retains exceptional and caring people.
About This Cause
Monument Academy is a one-of-its-kind weekday boarding, public charter middle school in Washington, D.C. Our primary objective is to narrow the wide gap in achievement between deeply at-risk (e.g., homeless, incarcerated parent, parented by kin, child welfare or systems involved) and other students in the city. One central goal is to put our students on a path to post-secondary education and a career by offering high-quality academics that are individualized to meet students where they are. Moreover, we aim to ensure that our students have the skills to live independently, including being able to demonstrate financial literacy, to clean, maintain and make basic repairs to their home, to access vital services including health care, to purchase and prepare nutritious food, and have vital documents. Monument Academy provides comprehensive wraparound services to students and families including: engaging and individualized academics, social-emotional learning, mental health and physical health supports, life skills and boarding, family engagement and connection to resources and enrichment and engagement opportunities for students.
