Mission Statement
Recognizing the historic imbalance of power in American media, with regard to race, gender, national origin, age and disability, we at Portland Radio Project are striving to become more diverse – and to increasingly reflect the communities we serve. We actively seek perspectives and expressions from varied sources in an effort to better culture ourselves and listeners, and more-closely align our organization with our increasingly diverse communities in the Portland area. We realize there is work to be done in improving diversity in the local music community, and we hope to be part of the movement toward a more just and equitable media landscape in Portland and beyond. As a unique and indispensable community resource, Portland Radio Project is a media platform and cultural hub connecting citizens to engaging content, sharing ideas, and setting the standards through which the community learns, grows and celebrates. Our mission is to give a voice to local musicians, nonprofits, and small businesses – engaging and mentoring new generations of arts lovers and community supporters.
About This Cause
Portland Radio Project is a commercial-free, nonprofit media platform for local individuals, organizations, musicians, podcasters and small businesses - on the dial at 99.1 FM in the heart of Portland, Oregon, and streaming worldwide. Begun in 2013 with a tiny band of passionate volunteers, our organization has grown into a vibrant LPFM (low-power FM) music station with thousands of streaming sessions, an expanding community of monthly donors, dozens of volunteers and diverse programming - including a podcast platform. Over 640 local artists are currently featured in regular rotation; we have profiled the important public service work of more than 150 local nonprofits; and we have mentored dozens of media-interested Portland high school and college students. After more than six years of volunteer-led increases in management, programming and fundraising, we are in need of financial support and paid staff to increase sustainability and enhance our cultural impact. Daytime, we offer Fresh Vibe music programming: a continuous flow of lush sounds, playing dream and electro pop, indie alt, neo soul, shoegaze, and other sounds that fall outside traditionally defined genres. Evenings, we offer Night Tribe: a fresh mix of new rock, indie, R&B, soul, hip hop, and other genres. A local artist every 15 minutes - no commercials. https://prp.fm/
