Mission Statement
In L'Arche, people with and without intellectual disabilities share life and friendships in a community strengthened by faith. We believe in a world where differences are celebrated and everyone belongs. Through social events and our unique model of community living, we contribute to a more inclusive, loving world. As members of the International Federation of L’Arche, our shared mission is to create homes where the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities are revealed through mutually transforming relationships; to embrace diverse cultures working together to build a more human society; and to respond to the changing needs of our members throughout a lifetime of adult care.
About This Cause
L'Arche Frederick celebrates the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities and believes in building relationships across differences. For well over a decade, L’Arche Frederick has celebrated the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities by building relationships across differences. We are one of over 150 global L'Arche communities in 38 countries, all committed to creating a more just, inclusive world where everyone belongs. In L’Arche, people with disabilities are not clients, patients, or recipients of services; they are friends, teachers, and companions, who have essential gifts to share. In our licensed community home, people with and without disabilities live together as peers, challenging the typical caregiving dynamic and creating a home environment of mutual trust and friendship. L'Arche Frederick's inclusive social events are an opportunity for people with disabilities to develop meaningful friendships and explore their community. Our activities celebrate and center people with disabilities. L'Arche partners with the Mount St. Mary's University Best Buds, a student group, on many of our events, bringing the celebration, spirituality, and connection of L'Arche to the broader community. Meaningful relationships, individualized supports, and a culture of belonging are at the core of what makes L'Arche one of the most unique organizations in the country.
