About This Cause
There are many people who go for days without seeing or talking with anyone. One in ten suffers intense loneliness but is reluctant to ask for help. It can happen to anyone. It happened to my mother who passed away in 2018 with another bout of pneumonia due to dementia from Alzheimer. The doctors told us that everyone has the gene that is linked to Alzheimer; however, they are not sure why it stays dormant in some and not others. After researching dementia, I found doctors linked loneliness to dementia and Club 50+ was born. Club 50 Plus is a Non Profit Organization working to prevent and combat loneliness and social isolation by adding "life" to "years". Club 50+ Laugh and Love program focuses on companionship and laughter. We plan different events based on member requests. Our Learn program concentrates on activities impacting the mind such as technology, finances, and Healthy Lifestyle. Club 50+ is working to start computer classes for seniors. Club 50+ members share their passions in the Live program where we give back and make a difference in the life of other older adults. Club 50+ sponsor The Silver Chat Line. A FREE confidential befriending service offering chats for older adults. Callers to the Silver Chat Line include an 81 year old woman that was lonely and depressed and was a caregiver for her husband of 42 years that had now passed on leaving her alone and frightened about her future. There are widows, widowers, caregivers, empty-nesters, retirees and people from all walks of life finding they are alone through circumstance. At the end of the calls you can hear the change in their demeanor. For that time loneliness was put at bay and replaced by a friendly and caring person that took time to share a their time with someone in need. They felt the warmth and joy of friendship and the pleasurable indulgence of simply chatting about everything and nothing with a new friend. We are asking you to donate and help us make an elderly person’s day a warm day and not a long lonely one filled with despair. Club 50+ is following the tradition of one of its members mother with the Adopt A Nursing Home service. During the holiday season, their mom would visit a senior facility and provide the residents with the gift of fruit. Club 50+ selects a senior facility and sing songs, member grandchildren participate in reading poems and/or putting on play. With the generosity of our members and typically Meijer we provide the residents with warm blankets, throws, body wash, lotion and other personal items in a nice gift bag. At the end of the program, the residents feel good and Club 50+ members feel even better. Members say this is best event and would like to do it more than during the holiday season. However, we need more donations. Club 50+ is a charitable organization that relies on the generosity of supporters and members to fund the Silver Chat Line and Adopt A Nursing Home services. 100% of your tax deductible gift will go towards the Silver Chat Line and/or the Adopt A Nursing Home service. Club 50+ has volunteers only, typically Club 50+ members. There are no paid employees. We are giving with our hearts, time and finances; we hope you too can find it in your heart to support our efforts with your donations. Thank You!!!
