Mission Statement

The mission of the Healthy Fathering Collaborative is to develop, promote and deliver services for fathers, father figures and adult male mentors over the lifespan of fatherhood, beginning with young men who are not yet fathers, through pregnancy, childbirth, early childhood, the school years and mentoring young adult males.

About This Cause

The Healthy Fathering Collaborative (HFC) of Greater Cleveland was formed by the Community Endeavors Foundation in 2001. The mission of the HFC is to develop, promote and deliver services for fathers, father figures and adult male mentors over the lifespan of fatherhood, beginning with young men who are not yet fathers, through pregnancy, childbirth, early childhood, the school years and mentoring young adult males. The HFC became a freestanding public charity in 2014. The agency currently provides direct services to fathers; promotes community-wide healthy fathering events and campaigns; delivers performance and outcome data consultation to grass roots agencies in the network; and coordinates a network of public and private agencies serving fathers and families. • The HFC’s primary direct services target fathers in the criminal justice system: o The Reconnection Programs, created in 2011, offer a comprehensive array of family reunification workshops for fathers returning home from incarceration, including fatherhood development, financial literacy, child support and parenting time navigation, and reproductive/sexual health awareness and education and healthy relationships. The programs are offered in two facilities of Oriana House, Inc.: The Judge Nancy R McDonnell Community Based Correctional Facility and the North Star Neighborhood Reentry Service Center. The Reconnection Programs served over 500 low income noncustodial fathers involved with the criminal justice system in 2018. • Healthy Fathering events focus on providing fathers and father figures parenting education and materials, empowering them to prepare for a new baby, engage in infant care, support breastfeeding, read to their children, be involved in their child’s education, and talk to their child about healthy sexuality and healthy relationships. The HFC collaborates with partners to lead two annual community-wide campaigns: Fathers Walk and the White Ribbon Campaign • The HFC, in collaboration with the Community Endeavors Foundation, operates a Social Solutions Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) data enterprise for 24 fatherhood and reentry agencies, tracking performance effectiveness and outcomes. The project is transforming the field into a data-informed, outcome-focused practice, helping make sure that scarce funding for fatherhood programming is used as wisely as possible. The data system now supports the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood’s funded programs as well. • The Healthy Fathering Collaborative maintains a website of network resources for fathers and professionals working with fathers, www.neofathering.net and publishes a brochure of service offerings, which is now also available on our mobile website, ww.justfordads.org • The HFC network has been meeting bimonthly since August of 2001. The network meets to share program models and resources, develop collaborations and promote policy education on issues facing low income fathers and families. The Healthy Fathering Collaborative, now numbers nearly 80 agencies, is a respected voice in the state-wide movement to develop father-friendly services and public policies. The Healthy Fathering Collaborative network model has been replicated in other Ohio communities.
