Mission Statement
Tall Tales Ranch is building a community, in Lone Tree, Colorado, to support people living with intellectual/developmental disabilities. This unique community will be home to people who are living with special needs and those who are not, and who will live as neighbors in a community of love, acceptance and support. We will have a Community Center Barn on the property, where our coffee shop will be housed. The coffee shop will be used as a vehicle to support employment training for the community. We'll have community gardens, social and recreational events and will be committed to being an integral part of the Lone Tree community.
About This Cause
We are raising funds to build a very special community in Lone Tree, Colorado. The over-riding objective of our work is that we want our loved ones, who are living with intellectual/developmental disabilities, to live surrounded by a community. A place where they are supported in their independence, honored for their unique skills and encouraged to live a productive life. We have been so fortunate and have a parcel of land that was provided to us by the Schweiger Ranch Foundation. The property is located at RidgeGate and I-25, with a brand new Light Rail station directly across the street. Our concept is unique in that we're creating a small community that is inclusive and integrated. A neuro-diverse group of residents will live there as neighbors who support and care for one another. We will offer a wide array of opportunities for the greater community to become involved with us, including enjoying coffee and fellowship at our coffee shop, renting our barn space for an event or attending a social get-together that we’ll host. Perhaps they are a church or school group that wants to visit Schweiger Ranch/Tall Tales Ranch to learn about what early farming looked like. As they are being led on a tour by someone living with I/DD (intellectual/developmental disabilities), they are learning the ancillary lessons involving respect, differences and that leadership can take many forms. The gardens will be another community builder, as we will have plots that can rented so that we bring people together to be in nature and work the land. We are all about community and it is our goal to become an integrated part of the Lone Tree community.
