About This Cause
We here at ASSIST help disabled Americans expedite their federal claims for Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. We work with many seriously indigent people experiencing homelessness as a high percentage of people experiencing homelessness can no longer support themselves through work because of a serious chronic mental and/or physical illness. Often the people who need the income help the most are the least able to navigate this daunting system and are under-served and under-represented. Our advocacy focus is on keeping our clients' cases out of the huge national backlog of appealed cases, which can take years to resolve. The majority of our clients' benefits are approved within the first 6 months of the complex application process. We hold their hands from start to finish.
