Mission Statement
Nonprofit wellness center dedicated to improving lives of those with Parkinson's disease with no charge for services
About This Cause
Located in Northeast Ohio, InMotion is a non-profit wellness center devoted to the health and well-being of those affected by Parkinson’s disease. The center fosters a beautiful, welcoming environment for activity and solace for those living with Parkinson’s, their families, and their carepartners. InMotion operates without an endowment and relies solely on direct support from individuals, foundations and corporations. Your donation provides a comprehensive and state-of-the-art program that includes three pillars of service—physical wellness, education, and emotional support—while keeping services free and available to those in need. At the same time, your gift is a high impact philanthropic investment, as this is a “FIRST OF ITS KIND” center in the United States. InMotion is poised to become the foremost wellness center for Parkinson’s disease in the country through the employment of a comprehensive program, strategic location, and open access model. This model will provide structure and design for future development nationwide. Services include ongoing informational and educational services, as well as group support activities for the individual and family with an emphasis on traditional and alternative exercise activities such as bicycling, dancing and boxing. InMotion also provides services that are emotional in content to combat the depression and isolation which sometimes encases the disease. InMotion opened its doors in March 2015 and currently has 1,100 clients, including care partners, who utilize the facility. We have done initial testing of clients utilizing the services and see a significant difference in physical markers - balance, endurance and mobility - over six month period(s). Client self-reporting includes a decrease in depression and social isolation. In a 36-month period, visits to InMotion have quadrupled and average 25 new clients per month. Classes are full and because of our consistent growth, we are desperate to add more. The four support groups – two for clients and two for carepartners - are at maximum capacity. Current literature about Parkinson’s disease suggests that adding new therapeutic modalities would enhance our program offerings. The introduction of spin classes, handwriting programs and an expansion of our music therapy would greatly aid our community.
