Mission Statement

The Walt Disney Family Museum presents an inspirational journey through the life of Walter Elias Disney. Our mission is two-fold: Two inform present and future generations about the man and, through his story, to inspire them to heed their imagination and persevere in pursuing their goals.

About This Cause

From Mickey Mouse to Snow White, from Mary Poppins to Disneyland, Walt Disney’s artistry and imagination helped define 20th-century America. The Walt Disney Family Museum brings his legacy to life and invites viewers to find their own creative inspiration in his story. The museum illuminates Walt’s fascinating life: his tremendous successes as well as his disappointments, and his unyielding optimism as he worked tirelessly to advance the art of animation. Walt was a risk-taker who influenced popular culture through pioneering animated and live-action films, television programs, theme parks, and other new technologies. His story is told through innovative, interactive galleries. Visitors get to know Walt through early drawings and animation, movies, music, and listening stations featuring his own voice, among others. A 13-foot model of Disneyland as Walt originally envisioned it is a perennial favorite with museum-goers. The Museum is also a nationally recognized leader in innovative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education, and it provides a wide range of hands-on educational activities for students and community members of all ages. In addition to classes, camps, workshops, professional development, custom tours, corporate and executive training and team retreats, the Museum offers a variety of public talks and film screenings as well as Animation Access activities for families affected by autism. Located on the scenic main post of San Francisco’s Presidio, the 40,000-square-foot museum melds history with engaging special exhibitions and state-of-the-art technology. Visitors can also enjoy the museum store, learning center, café, and Fantasia-themed theater, which screens Disney classics six days a week. Donations support the Museum's on-going work to deliver its mission, including special exhibitions and vital education and outreach programs serving community members of all ages in the Bay Area and far beyond.
