Mission Statement
Theatre33 is a community theater in Bellevue, WA. It was founded in 2013. The mission of Theatre33 is to provide quality live productions and education to audiences of all ages through the power of storytelling. Theatre speaks all languages or conveys the stories in silence; it speaks about any subject, regardless of social or political agenda; it absorbs and brings to stage every culture and mindset; it survived millenniums, every war and every regime. Theatre still speaks from hearts of creators to the hearts of the audience and will continue to exist while there is at least one actor and one spectator. It can be done by anyone and it should be done for everyone. We want to be a part of this kind of theatre.
About This Cause
Theatre33 is a bilingual 501(c)(3) non-profit community theatre. We provide a unique platform for transplanted immigrants and next generation Americans to retain and maintain their connection to history, literature and language. We also serve as a cultural hub to unite diverse cultures and ages through the love of dramatic arts. Our productions are either in Russian or English and are subtitled to allow mixed-language families, Russian language learners, and non-Russian speaking patrons to have a complete and quality experience. The youth theater draws American-born kids for whom Russian is a second or third language. Not only are the children willingly improving their language skills, they are also learning about the cultural diversity of our region and gaining the confidence and skills to connect with their peers at a deeper level. Most parents marvel at the enthusiasm and eagerness their kids express toward learning the language, which is the complete opposite of the typical response to formal language education. We incorporated in 2013, playing in friends’ living rooms and venues around Seattle and the Eastside for the first few years. In 2015, we leased our own little black box theater that we have lovingly been calling our home. We have been gaining momentum ever since, establishing our patron base, growing our donor list and most importantly, providing quality live theatrical entertainment and education to a broad demographic. We are entirely volunteer staffed. Our adult actors typically put on 4-6 productions. A group of these actors also produces shows for the children. We have two youth groups, one for younger kids, ages 10-15, and the other is for older adolescents over the age of 15. We typically close off our season with a literary-musical original composition that pays tribute to a poet of the past. This production includes adults and children who are interested in participating. From contemporary plays to beloved classics, our mission is to develop the interest of our volunteers and patrons in the dramatic arts.
