Mission Statement

We are a computer science education organization. Partnered with schools & communities to bring computer science education to all of Virginia's learners.

About This Cause

CodeVA was founded in 2013 and became that same year Code.org's first regional partner, helping establish a model for statewide delivery of computer science teacher training and advocacy that now is in more than half of states. A member of the Computer Science For All Consortium, and twice recognized by the White House for its efforts around computer science K-12 advocacy, CodeVA spearheaded Virginia's move to become the first state in the nation to mandate computer science as a core subject area for all students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Since 2014, CodeVA has provided sustained (typically a year or more of participation per-teacher) professional development in Computer Science instruction to thousands of teachers across Virginia, impacting hundreds of thousands of students from elementary to high school. CodeVA's programs also include advocacy for K-12 computer science education; direct student programs and family services that serve thousands of Virginia children annually with arts and music integrated computer science camps, programs and activities; and federally funded academic research in areas of K-12 computer science educational methods and practices.
