Mission Statement
Brooklyn Lab exists to bridge the gap in access to excellent schools. Brooklyn Lab prepares and equips scholars with the academic foundation, digital literacy, and leadership skills they need to succeed in college and in life as they grow as ethical leaders.
About This Cause
Brooklyn LAB was co-founded in 2013 with the mission to eliminate the achievement gap by preparing scholars with the academic foundation, digital literacy, and leadership skills necessary to succeed in college and professional life. Brooklyn LAB is dedicated to serving the highest need students, regardless of their academic level, English language proficiency, or disability. Brooklyn LAB's Brooklyn Laboratory Charter School and Edmund W. Gordon Brooklyn Laboratory Charter School (EWG) charters receive authorization from the New York State Education Department. Brooklyn LAB provides a rigorous academic program focused on supporting every scholar to develop the knowledge, skills, and habits they need to master core academic subjects in preparation for success in college and careers. We provide a structured educational program grounded in civics and leadership that prepares scholars to be active change makers in their communities. At the heart of Brooklyn LAB, we elevate and celebrate individuals for the experiences and perspectives they bring to enrich our community. The work we have undertaken is challenging and ever changing. We have chosen to fully engage and show up without hesitation as we demonstrate moral and mental strength by doing what is right with confidence and resolution--even in the face of adversity. At the Lab, our collective courage empowers us to forge new pathways to unlock unique opportunities for students and their families. None of us can do this work alone. We must lead with compassion for ourselves and for one another, recognizing the humanity in our teammates and collaborators, in order to build coalitions for real change. At the Lab, we suspend judgement to appreciate others' perspectives/situations when they are different from our own. Breaking down systemic barriers for our students takes persistence, drive, and unwavering determination. We believe this exists within us extrinsically, and we hold the power and resolve to drive impact through our commitment to each other and our students. At the Lab, we bind ourselves to Brooklyn Lab’s strategic priorities and work steadfast toward achieving excellence. We believe that everyone has a hidden genius and something unique to contribute to the world around them. We strive to unleash the potential in everyone, students and staff alike. At the Lab, we demonstrate innovative, problem-solving, adaptability and flexibility to solve problems and/or contribute to finding solutions.
