Mission Statement

Project Soar is a registered charitable association founded in 2013 with a singular mission: to empower teen girls to be the leaders of today and tomorrow. Project Soar’s girl-centered empowerment program is designed to build the capacity of marginalized teen girls to succeed in school and achieve more productive futures.

About This Cause

At Project Soar, we envision a world where every marginalized teen girl knows her value, voice, body, rights, and path. Through our award-winning, holistic 25-workshop empowerment curriculum, Project Soar empowers teen girls in “squads” of 15-20 girls, led by trained women Soar Empowerment Facilitators who come from the communities where they serve. As a Soar Girl progresses through our program, she undergoes a transformative process whereby she further develops her self-confidence; speaks up; embraces her adolescent body; fights for her rights; and sets future goals. The Soar Solution works - empowerment goes hand-in-hand with education, helping to keep girls healthy, free from violence, safe from child marriage, and on the path to more productive futures. Soar Girls perform better in school compared to other teen girls across Morocco despite being from underserved communities as evidenced by our 2022 impact data (collected from 452 Soar Girls across 26 locations in Morocco): 90% of marginalized Soar Girls passed the school year vs the national rate of 82% of all students (which includes private school attendees), and 0.91% of Soar Girls married underage vs the national rate of 14% of girls. Our curriculum also helps girls develop key soft skills that employers look for, including leadership skills, goal setting, increased confidence, problem solving, teamwork, and public speaking. Further, we believe that solutions should be led by teen girls who know firsthand what sustainability looks like in their communities. Therefore, at the local level we empower teen girls via our empowerment program to advocate for gender equality & fight gender-based violence via girl-led Soar Club activities & campaign for change in their communities through Soar Dialogues. At the national level, Project Soar leads the BIGGER Movement, a coalition of 70+ Moroccan NGOs, that empowers marginalized teen girls to mobilize and advocate with key stakeholders at the national level to abolish child marriage. Project Soar is also the UNFPA’s strategic partner for teen girls’ education and awareness raising on menstrual health and hygiene in Morocco. Our replicable, scalable model has allowed Project Soar to grow to 40+ Soar chapters nationwide in Morocco and was successfully piloted for expansion in five sites in Uganda and four sites in Northwest Syria. Since 2013, Project Soar has provided 176,200+ hours of teen girl empowerment and has an active network of 3,822+ Soar Girls. Adolescent girls can change the world, but they face more challenges and hurdles to success than any other population across the globe. Currently, Project Soar is the only program of our kind in Morocco. With our holistic leadership program for the underserved teen girl population, we empower teen girls to become empowered women, able to lift up their families, their communities and ultimately their nations.
