AMERICAN CIVIL WAR MUSEUM

RICHMOND, Virginia, 23219-4328 United States

Mission Statement

The American Civil War Museum explores, inspires, and promotes the public's understanding of the Civil War - its causes, course, and consequences.

About This Cause

In 2013, The American Civil War Center (established in 2000) and The Museum of the Confederacy (established in 1890, opened 1896) consolidated into one museum, the American Civil War Museum. Building on 125 years of experience, today the American Civil War Museum is uniquely positioned. It has an unparalleled collection of Civil War artifacts, art, and research materials. Most of these artifacts – which includes 550 flags and 240 uniforms – were donated by the Civil War generation itself, and have been preserved by the Museum ever since. The Museum provides a comprehensive educational experience which includes exhibits, tours, distance learning, living history, classroom education, lectures and symposia, collection resources, a digital manuscript collection, and presentations.
