Mission Statement
Provide prosthetic or artificial limbs, calipers and other physical aids and appliances, free of charge, to as many disabled people as possible through its centers, outreach programs and rehabilitation camps, both in India and abroad. To ensure the physical, economic and social rehabilitation of the disabled, to enable them to regain their mobility and dignity and become self-respecting and productive members of society, ie, in short, restoring the glory of life.
About This Cause
The world's largest organization rehabilitates over 1.98 million disabled. Jaipur Foot provides all its assistance, including artificial limbs, calipers, and other aids and appliances totally free of charge. The Jaipur Foot Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) organization in the USA and the primary function of this organization is to raise funds from donors within United States of America and provide prosthetics free of charge through the society “Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS)“ based in Jaipur, India. Jaipur Foot is also trademark under which BMVSS provide all it’s products free within India and around the world (Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and African countries and South America) through organizing limb fitment camps. It is a pan-Indian organization having 23 branches, spanning Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir) to Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Ahmedabad (Gujarat) to Guwahati (Assam). Metropolitan cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Varanasi, Patna, etc. also have limb fitment centers of BMVSS. Jaipur Foot/BMVSS has held more than 60, on-the-spot, limb fitment camps in 27 countries across the world, the details of which are given under the Foreign camps section. The technicians are sent by air and mostly the equipment’s and materials by ship. In these cases, also, temporary workshops are set up by the teams sent by Jaipur Foot/BMVSS at the locations already identified. The local organizers bring the patients to the camp sites. The limbs/calipers are fabricated and fitted to the patients in one to three days. As of date, Jaipur Foot/BMVSS has held over 60 plus camps in the following 26 countries: Afghanistan, Syria, Panama, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Philippines, Zambia, Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Honduras, Rwanda, Iraq, Indonesia, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Malawi, Trinidad, Senegal, Nigeria, Vietnam, Fiji, Nepal, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Nairobi, and Sudan. The Stanford-BMVSS Jaipur Knee, which is the product of research due to a formal memorandum of understanding between BMVSS and Stanford University, was hailed by Time magazine USA(November 23, 2009 issue) as one of the world's 50 best inventions in 2009.
