About This Cause
Jacinto Convit World Organization is a U.S. nonprofit and nongovernmental organization incorporated in 2014, that contributes primarily to important areas of public health, such as cancer and endemic infectious diseases in developing countries with poor health conditions. JCWO’s philosophy is based on Dr. Convit’s ideals and humanistic approach to develop treatments that are accessible for the underprivileged population, especially in poor countries. Dr. Convit, although a man of science, had a profound humanist approach tied to his work. He dedicated himself to curing the most feared diseases such as leprosy, leishmaniasis, among other tropical endemic diseases, and cancer; never leaving behind the important meaning of truly caring about the patient as a human being. He devoted himself to train new generations of professionals and build multidisciplinary teams, as he was a strong believer in the capacity of the education and the success of team efforts over individual work. The desire to help the most vulnerable, be useful to others and work to build a stronger society, are some of the values that have inspired JCWO since its inception. We acknowledge the patient's needs and direct our efforts to help especially the underprivileged populations. We believe that a society is stronger when all its people have access to a good healthcare system, including an early and precise diagnosis, and adequate treatments. We believe that together with the support of multiple institutions and individuals, we can contribute to have better healthcare solutions to those that do not have access to adequate services. Our current efforts are centered on two main programs, Molecular Diagnostics and Cancer Immunotherapy. The Molecular Diagnostics program is based on supporting the expansion of the Molecular Diagnostic Unit in South America. The Cancer Immunotherapy program continues the development of Dr. Convit’s breast cancer immunotherapy, ConvitVax. For many people around the world, having access to molecular techniques used in diagnosis or control of diseases is as simple as any other basic blood test. However, this is not the case for most developing countries. Many lives could be saved if an early and precise diagnosis is performed. In this sense, and considering the improved survival rates for childhood cancer when an early and precise diagnose is performed, JCWO builds international support for the Molecular Diagnostic Unit; a pioneer program that consists of a personalized, precise, and free of cost diagnostic service for pediatric cancers and endemic infectious diseases to underprivileged children that are treated in public hospitals, and lack the resources to access high quality diagnostics and innovative or conventional therapies. Therefore, our main collaboration agreements are with children's hospitals and pediatric units. On the other hand, JCWO seeks to make Dr. Convit’s breast cancer immunotherapy a standard low cost treatment option for patients. Through partnerships with research and health centers, JCWO works to advance its clinical trials in the US, South America and Europe using the ConvitVax. Additionally, this program looks to further enhance the anti-tumor effect of the ConvitVax by testing it in combination with other breast cancer therapies, as well as evaluate it as a treatment for other types of solid tumor cancers. With this program we direct our efforts to develop accessible immunotherapy protocols that can be affordable for underprivileged patients who lack the possibility of entering new innovative treatments.
