About This Cause
Carter's House came to be in February of 2014. Our founder and her family went through a rough financial hardship. In 2008, she and her then-husband lived in a motel room with 3 of their four children, and they could not provide school uniforms for two. Shawana found out that there are programs that will help them because of the current living situation, but for those who don't have issues with housing, there wasn't much help available. This is why she started Carter's House. She understands that sometimes life gets hard, and people may need help. Carter's House currently services all residents of the DFW metroplex. We partner with families in several school districts, headstart centers, area charter schools, and more; we created outside partnerships with other organizations. We service families in Dallas, Tarrant, and Collin counties. We are pleased to offer our services to those in need, and we have created two programs to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our clients. Carter's Clothing Bank is a year-round program open to all parents in the community without zip code restrictions. We offer some different initiatives throughout the year to benefit the community. Carter's House is committed to providing our clients the service they need while giving them the respect and dignity they deserve.
