Sugar Hill Children's Museum of Art & Storytelling

NEW YORK, New York, 10032 United States

Mission Statement

The Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling provides our culturally rich neighborhood with a space where children and their families grow and learn about Sugar Hill, and about the world at large, through inter generational dialogue with artists, art and storytelling.

About This Cause

Located in Harlem's Sugar Hill historic district and inspired by the legacy of the Harlem Renaissance, the Sugar Hill Children's Museum of Art & Storytelling is Upper Manhattan's only Children's Museum. Through art exhibitions, engaging art making experiences, imaginative storytelling series, an artist-in-residence program and encounters with working artists, the museum supports the creative and cognitive development of young visitors and serves as a platform for inter-generational cultural exchange. Influenced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education, Museum programs are rooted in community, self-guided discovery, creative expression, and the learning that naturally occurs through play and exploration. A program of Broadway Housing Communities, the Museum is the cultural capstone of BHC's Sugar Hill Project, a mixed use building designed by globally acclaimed architect David Adjaye. We invite you to explore your own curiosity and creativity, and discover all this special museum has to offer. Hope to see you soon!
