Mission Statement
Mission: To give all children of Chicago-with a focus on low-income communities-the opportunity to learn, play and compete in chess at no cost. Vision: Chess can fundamentally change the lives of children and families and contribute to the betterment of our community.
About This Cause
In 2014, a group of parents and leaders from the Chicago Chess community noticed their children had experienced an impressive amount of growth and learning from playing the game against their peers. However, they also recognized a growing gap in access to the benefits of playing chess in low-income communities and schools in Chicago. Inspired by what playing Chess bestowed upon their children, they joined together to create a nonprofit dedicated to bringing those same learning benefits to kids across Chicago for free. CCF believes that Chess can be a catalyst for profound change in the lives of youth and their families, contributing to the betterment of our community. Our programs utilize the game of chess to transmit intangible academic, social-emotional, and leadership development skills.
