Mission Statement
"We are all in this together" The Chemo Angels Volunteer Group is a volunteer group made up of cancer patients, former cancer patients and caregivers of cancer patients. We support and provide comfort care to patients during the chemotherapy infusions they receive in the CARTI Oncology Clinic in El Dorado Arkansas.
About This Cause
The Chemo Angels Volunteer Group consists of current and former cancer patients, as well as caregivers of cancer patients. We offer non-medical support to patients during their chemotherapy treatments at the Oncology Clinic in El Dorado, Arkansas. Our volunteers include individuals who have undergone chemotherapy, providing valuable insights and support based on personal experience. This unique perspective helps identify and address patient needs effectively. Volunteers and patients benefit from mutual support, fostering physical and emotional healing during treatment and recovery phases. The organization also recruits volunteers without prior cancer experience who are motivated to assist cancer patients. Volunteers are present throughout patients' time in the chemo clinic, reducing stress and anxiety. Caregivers, who often cannot stay with their patients, also benefit from our support. We recognize caregivers as integral to the patient's care team and aim to alleviate their stress and strain. By supporting caregivers, we enhance the overall well-being of both patients and caregivers, fostering an environment of support and hope. Long days at the chemo clinic can be challenging. A cancer diagnosis and subsequent chemotherapy plan often bring anxiety and emotional distress. Our mission is to provide comfort and address emotional pain. Volunteers greet patients, offer reassurance, and provide nonmedical interaction and companionship. Chemo Angel Volunteers orient new patients to the oncology clinic, introduce them to staff, provide blankets, and maintain communication with caregivers. They assist with safe transfers, offer refreshments, and provide information on managing financial and social issues. Volunteers help connect patients with community resources for financial, housing, and transportation assistance. By taking on certain comfort care tasks, volunteers support oncology nurses, allowing them to focus on medical care. Volunteers assist patients with various needs, freeing up nurses to deliver essential medical services. Cancer involves numerous appointments requiring reliable transportation. Maintaining these appointments is crucial for optimal disease management. The Chemo Angel Volunteer Group assists with transportation to facilitate appointment compliance. Our volunteers are dedicated and experienced, with many serving for over ten years. We provide flexibility and annual training covering infection control, HIPAA regulations, safety precautions, and chemotherapy discomfort management. Cancer affects many people, either directly or through loved ones. Chemotherapy is often part of the experience. The Chemo Angel Volunteer Group assists at the Oncology Clinic, making the process more tolerable for patients and caregivers. Our motto, "We are all in this together," reflects our commitment to supporting one another through the cancer journey, aiming for remission or cure.
