About This Cause
As the official alumni association of C. Leon King High School, we are a tax exempt, nonprofit organization (IRS code 501c3) dedicated to serving the Lion family and acting as an advocate for school needs and rights and assists in major fundraising projects for the school. The King High School Alumni Organization was established in 1993 by members of the first three graduating classes (1962, 1963 and 1964) to renew old friendships and give back to the school that originally brought them all together many years earlier. To express their thanks and appreciation and to return some of the gratification they once shared at King, the group decided to create a college scholarship to benefit King students. Remembering the teachers that made an impact on them while in high school the group raised money to fund a scholarship in honor of the first three dedicatory recipients of the King yearbook, “The Clarion.” William “Bill” Stewart, William O’Brien and Robert Scott were teachers at King for many years who consistently went above and beyond to educate, motivate and inspire their students to think big and reach for the stars. In their honor the alumni group created the S.O.S. scholarship. For more than twenty years this original group raised funds to provide scholarships for numerous students to attend Hillsborough Community College. Looking to broaden their scope of giving back to King, in 2010 and 2011 the association along with numerous other alumni and friends completed a successful campaign to raise over $30,000.00 to remodel the school weight room which had not seen any upgrades for over thirty years. Shortly after that successful campaign the group focused to increase their efforts to provide other services to King and fellow alumni. In 2014, the group expanded its charter and today are developing a data base of student graduates, providing reunion planning assistance, promoting alumni socials, sponsoring alumni oriented events at homecoming and other school related events, overseeing the King High School “Wall of Pride” that recognizes outstanding alumni and of course assisting the school in its beautification and fund raising efforts. Members receive e-blasts of current King and alumni events, invitation to attend King Alumni Organization socials at local venues, I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion.
