Mission Statement

Folio is a gathering place for books and the people who love them. Devoted to the intellectually curious, Folio offers circulating collections, vibrant conversations, innovative public programs, and workspaces for writers. It serves the region’s creative community by being an incubator for new ideas.

About This Cause

We live in a time when information is plentiful but wisdom is often lacking. More than ever, we need a place where intellectual curiosity and culture can thrive and inspire. Founded in 2014, Folio is America's youngest Athenaeum. Born in the digital age and at the heart of a changing city, Folio seeks to discover and redefine what it means to be a 21st century Athenaeum. Located at the heart of Pike Place Market, Folio's reading rooms are home to a circulating book collection of over 11,000 donated books from Northwest collectors, and many literary and cultural periodicals. A quiet oasis in downtown Seattle, it is a book lover's paradise, with stunning views of Elliott Bay! As a public cultural hub, Folio offers lively and diverse opportunities for conversation, connection, civic engagement, and cultural enrichment through intimate author readings, civic panel discussions, musical evenings, book discussion groups, and philosophy and poetry clubs.
