About This Cause
Giraffes have intrigued mankind with their unusual yet graceful appearance. However, little is known about the species and it has been somewhat neglected by scientists. It is estimated that there are only 80,000 giraffes left in Africa and the species has already gone extinct in at least seven countries. This gentle giant lacks the attitude and reputation of the rhino, the human-like traits of the gorilla, the intelligence of the elephant and the elusive nature of the pangolin, and so is overshadowed by these supermodels of conservation and could very well disappear before our eyes; loping silently into extinction. The World Giraffe Foundation is working to help save all nine subspecies of giraffe, currently focusing on two that are endangered: the West African or Nigerian giraffe and the Uganda or Rothschild’s giraffe. With your support, the foundation could do more to save the giraffe and their ecosystems. We hope to find and inspire more like-minded philanthropists around the globe to reach our Save the Giraffe Fund goal of $25 million. Your tax-deductible investment will help sustain, protect, and secure a future for the giraffe. By showing this kind of courage and leadership, you can inspire support from other individual, corporation and foundation donors. It’s time to devote more money to this conservation issue. Much, much more. And soon. Our vision is that of a sustainable future where all giraffe populations and sub-species are protected and secure in the wild. The Foundation’s priorities include: • Promoting the importance and profile of giraffe conservation on the international stage, increasing awareness for the plight of the giraffe. • Securing viable, and protecting existing, habitat for giraffe and other wildlife. • Supporting dedicated and innovative research to better understand giraffe ecology, conservation and management. • Establishing the current status of all giraffe populations and sub-species to support and inform their conservation and management. • Identifying key threats to giraffe and innovative ways to mitigate these. • Developing a world-class network of individuals and organizations dedicated to securing the future of giraffe. • Providing a platform and forum for giraffe related research, conservation and management discussion. • Promoting and supporting giraffe conservation initiatives and work collaboratively with local communities to develop a sustainable future for both people and wildlife. There’s work to be done, and the clock is ticking. We hope you will stick out your neck for giraffe conservation and invest in our campaign to save the giraffe.
