Mission Statement
OUR MISSION We seek to break down cultural and systemic social barriers that prevent young adults of all races, genders, and abilities from exploring computer science as a potential career. CFA’s employer-mentored, project-based work programs support practicing the application of critical thinking and problem-solving to real-world work scenarios.
About This Cause
Computing For All (CFA) is a 501(c)3 non profit working in partnership with business, education, government, and relevant community-based organizations to provide low income underrepresented young adults with the skills needed to begin an entry-level technology career pathway. CFA’s programs address critical labor market shortages for well-trained workers in the IT sector, help diversify the workforce, and create career pathways into tech for people who have been historically underrepresented in the field. As the Career Connect Washington (CCW) IT/Cybersecurity sector program intermediary for Washington State, we collaborate with high schools, colleges, and employers to align the curriculum and experience that CS educators offer with up-to-date tech skills that meet current employer job needs and help to create bridge programs to career pathways in tech. Our software development pre-apprenticeship program has been serving students since January 2019. Students build job skills and professional networks with hands-on project work experience under the tutelage of employer mentors from companies like Bank of America and Smartsheet, and qualified students have been invited by these employers to work at full-time summer internships. Our work-based learning/career launch pathways in high school in the areas of Information Technology Support, (Yakima County) Cybersecurity, (King & Pierce County), Data Center Technician, (Grant County) offer curriculum, work-based learning and college credit for students to enter the relevant career pathway of their choice. Our Cloud Computing career launch program in 7 participating community colleges, offers AWS certified curriculum and industry credentials, along with internships to get these students prepared for entry level jobs in the tech industry. We also provide digital literacy training to those who have socioeconomic or other barriers to employment. To this end, we partner with community-based organizations such as the Seattle Jobs Initiative to provide digital literacy training and support for underserved populations. Working with a team of industry leaders, educators, instructional designers, and subject matter experts we continually build and reiterate solutions that are responsive to shifts in labor market demand and to the needs of underserved students and job seekers. Our goal is to help build a world where the growth of the tech industry creates an inclusive, economic prosperity for all, and where tech sector companies and their employees are engaged and active participants in making our economy equitable.
