About This Cause

also: The Center for Civil Society and Democracy was founded by Syrian leaders in 2011 inspired by the Syrian revolution to support and strengthen civil society and to promote democracy. CCSD was registered in the USA as CCSDS in February 2015 and it has a strong track record programming and empowering civil society to respond locally to different humanitarian crisis's over the past 12 years. CCSDS has worked in partnership with our strategic partners and with thousands of Syrians to promote human rights, women's rights, the rights of marginalized people, and women and civil society participation in the peace process. CCSDS's work has contributed to peace building at the local level and at the national level in Syria -with programs focused on social cohesion, P/CVE, facilitating dialogues with disparate actors and building consensus for taking action, and developing strong networks of women and civil society. Leveraging our experience and our networks, CCSDS has expansive outreach to Syrian local groups including those in the hard to reach areas and even to groups which operate only in one town in Syria such as Armanaz, Attarb, and KafrTakharim. In the last three weeks, since the earthquake, CCSDS has supported more than twenty local groups including women groups in Turkyie and Northwest Syria through our Emergency Local Response campaign. The local groups have done great work in providing humanitarian support and in responding to the needs of people as a result of the earthquake. We have supported local groups in towns in Turkyie such as Gaziantep, Urfa, Kilis, Reyhanli, and others. In Northwest Syria we have also supported the local groups in town such as Attarb, Efrin including Jandaris, Harm and IDPs camps (we have worked with groups not registered outside of Syria and that are not registered with the local authorities). The response to the earthquake has included food baskets, clean water, tents, blankets, wood and heaters, hygiene kits, and dignity kits for women. CCSDS have been also providing psycho-social support for our partners and spaces for sharing information.
