About This Cause
Every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to fulfill their potential as global citizens. Powering Potential aims to ensure that no one is left behind in the rapidly evolving 21st-century economy by using technology to improve education and employability for youth in developing countries. With improved learning and technology literacy, students are better prepared to pursue higher education, secure employment, and build a brighter future. Our programs provide schools with solar-power, computer labs, digitized learning materials, and digital skills training in underserved areas of Tanzania and Peru. We partner with the local community to implement sustainable, culturally respectful projects that are effectively integrated into the classroom. Girls receive the same training and resources as boys. Each school receives a solar system; 20 networked computer work stations; servers equipped with a digitized version of the national curriculum or other supplemental learning materials, and Libre Office; and a projector. Teachers and students receive comprehensive education on computer skills and office applications. Our local teams conduct additional training 6 months later, and return as needed to troubleshoot and make repairs. Since 2006, we have implemented 120 programs in 39 schools in Tanzania and the Peruvian Amazon, impacting over 37,000 students and teachers. Our current focus is the Karatu District in Northern Tanzania, where we are one-third of the way through a 3-5 year plan to install a solar-powered computer lab at every secondary school in the district. By the end of 2027, 12,000 students in 23 public secondary schools will have access to solar-powered computer labs and comprehensive digital skills training, bridging the digital divide in their communities and preparing them for future academic and professional opportunities.
