About This Cause

Our 1st Program is the Out of School Time Program for at risk middle and high school youths with College/Job Skills in which we have for the last 7 years exposed youths and their immediate families(parents, guardians, siblings, and their children) to learning/camping adventures outside of the community, classrooms and home focusing on family-supporting/stem careers, outdoor skills education, conservation, character/leadership training, mentorship, team/family building tools. We have partnered with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Texas Outdoor Family in which we camp/volunteer/learn in over 90 state parks( we have been to 12 to date!) learning Outdoor Education, Family/Team Building, Conservation. Career Introductions and more. We are the 2022-2023 Texas Parks and Wildlife Coop Grant Recipient, along with 6 other organizations such as University of Houston and Houston Independent School District $60,000 and us at $54,500. We also have obtained an ongoing grant with The H.E. Butt Foundation in which are given an 178-bed facility on Labor Day Weekend yearly for our Youth, Family, and Community Camp. We have provided 4 camps at this facility, the 1st being scheduled the weekend of Hurricane Harvey, in which I was stuck in my home with 9 teen-aged boys, 3 girls and 5 men watching the Mayweather fight for 5 days! We were rescheduled for the 1st weekend of October 2017 in which we brought 50 individuals, 2018 we brought 120 individuals/20 families, Pre-Covid 2019-we brought 155 individuals/30 families, and this year on our return visit we brought 110 individuals/22 families. This year with the assistance of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Coop grant we have visited Blanco State Park in April, Mother's Day Glamping Trip at Lake Corpus Christi, Father's Day Adventures at Bastrop State Park. We are preparing to visit 2 more parks this year and total of 15 next year! During this pandemic we have extended assistance to Women/Disadvantaged Small Businesses with EDIL'S and PPP loans with the Small Business Administration, and most recently helping Small Business Owner's apply for the 'Open for Business' grant with Wells Fargo and the Houston Equity Fund, which provided the rare opportunity for Small Business Owner's to receive grants from $10,000-$65,000 for purchase of assets in their businesses(land, technology, vehicles, property, and more). We are partnering with the Roy L Jackson Community Center to provide Conversations: Vaccine- Coffee, Tea and Pastries, Let's get the Tea on it! We will focus on the low-income areas/high covid-19 numbers and go to the churches, community centers, parks to provide information to the community residents about the disease to help them make a well informed decision on taking the vaccine and the consequences of decision. We will partner with Case Mangers, Social Workers, Texas Department of Health, City of Houston Department of Health in assisting us to provide on the spot vaccines and information to help educate, heal and restore the communities of Houston. Our newest venture is to help our community residents build Generational Wealth, creating our own affordable housing while building Generational Wealth within their own family and the community. We will work with individuals residing in public housing and housing choice vouchers to build their resources and knowledge of becoming self sufficient citizens in their communities. We have increased our ability to help small business owners within our communities with start-up, growth, and expansion of their businesses. We are looking to begin building our Energy efficient Container Homes with a lending source beyond the traditional available financial assistance.
