Mission Statement
Reading Heart is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) book donation program dedicated to serving children in hospitals and children in areas with limited access to books. Danay started Reading Heart at the age of eight because she wanted to share her passion for reading and the joy of escaping in a good book with other children. An avid book reader and advocate for education, Danay wants to spread the joy of reading and improve literacy not only in our community but also across the country.
About This Cause
Reading Heart has a mission to ensure every child has a free book to read. By providing every child with one free book of their choice, then encouraging them to share it with a friend when they are done Reading Heart is increasing the chancesof providing children the ability to read and share thousands of free books. Reading Heart was created to provide the less fortunate and hospitalized with free books.Reading Heart has had the opportunity to work with some amazing individuals that have helped Danay’s dream become a reality.Reading Heart was able to start an Education Matters Book Tour Powered by Clawson Honda for elementary schools. The Education Matters Book Tour is a fun mini party for the whole school to enjoy that gets kids to learn about the importance of reading. Every child receives a free book of their choice and is encouraged to read then share the books when they are done. Each child is eligible to receive free gifts for every 5 books they read, inspiring children to read even more. Reading Heart has a firm belief that giving one free book to every child will not only increase literacy but cultivate sharing amongst the community. To date we have provided over 250,000 books to kids in the Fresno County area. Reading Heart is a host of Fresno’s Book Bank which, provides free books to any non-profit entity, church, or organization that encourages children to read more. Currently, the Reading Heart Book Bank houses over 400,000 donated books.
