Mission Statement

FoodRight empowers youth to choose foods that sustain life-long health.

About This Cause

FoodRight was born in 2006 after a needs assessment by public health dietitian and CEO, Lisa Kingery, revealed a youth population with high rates of overweight and obesity and a lack of programming to address it. FoodRight is an elevated "home-economics" program that aims to eliminate food insecurity and chronic diseases linked with poor diet starting with those most at risk—our children. Hands-on gardening and culinary nutrition education lessons in Milwaukee schools empower children, families, and educators to cook and enjoy wholesome, low-cost, plant-based and globally inspired meals. Research-based and vetted, our curricula incorporates core academic standards and introduces students to the food system while effecting changes in habits and attitudes that last a lifetime. We serve Milwaukee’s central-city, developing a model to be nationally replicated. We are currently accepting volunteers to assist in the classroom and to help pack, clean and store cooking equipment and ingredients for our in-person and virtual lessons. We can't wait to hear from you!
