Mission Statement

The American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC) is a national nonprofit organization fighting to ensure America's promise of lifelong freedom to wild horses and burros is fulfilled and the public lands they call home are preserved. Our public awareness and education campaigns, advocacy work, field work, and land conservation and habitat restoration projects aim to protect and conserve these iconic animals as an integral part of the landscape of the West. https://americanwildhorse.org/

About This Cause

We are America’s leading voice on protecting wild mustangs & burros. AWHC works to dismantle the cruel and costly federal wild horse and burro roundup program and replace it with humane management that keeps wild horses and burros wild, protected, and free on our Western public lands. A Three-Pronged Approach 1. Defend and restore freedom. We help dismantle, reform, and replace failed portions of the federal management program to better protect wild horses and burros and improve land management and resource allocation. 2. Promote humane management. We enact and enforce policies, standards, and methods that improve the population management of wild horses and burros living on public lands. 3. Raise standards of welfare. We champion and help establish transparency and humane standards of treatment for wild horses and burros for on-range management programs, and for those who are rounded up and held in confinement.
