Mission Statement
To spread the joy and inspiration of street band music and culture, with friends and neighbors, every Sunday.
About This Cause
We are a free community musical school, open to all ages and levels of musical experience. Using a brass marching band form, and an ear- and mentor-based approach, we learn to play lively dance songs, and parade around the neighborhood every Sunday afternoon. We believe learning music is easy when we are having fun, We believe everyone has musical potential, everyone learns from everyone else, We believe music is a social activity and transformative opportunity (rather than just an entertainment product, transaction, or artistic "accomplishment"). We believe brass street bands offer everyone an accessible path to enjoying collective, spontaneous, free expression. And we believe that music is "successful" when it overcomes the boundary between performers and audience, and everyone present is moved to move, to dance, to smile, to make music and feel better, feel trust in each other, and renewed hope for our own lives and for the collective fate of our world. In 4 years, we've grown to nearly 1,000 members, supported by more than 35 volunteer mentors, with more than 20 songs learned and already more than 200 performances in our community.
