Mission Statement

This ministry is a nonprofit, benevolent corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable, humanitarian purposes. To provide health, education, social, shelter and other basic human needs to underserved and marginalized populations through actualizing the belief that every man, woman and child has the right to receive quality care in a dignified manner, to be assisted in the achievement of optimal health and well-being, regardless of race, creed, status or socio-economic level. With the original incentive was as a response to my maternal grandmother, who actually worked as a domestic for a physician but lacking healthcare died from a preventable condition. I am the daughter of John T. Inge, a native of Danville Virginia, one of the last surviving original Montford Point Marines, who himself is the recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal and in whose honor my organization is named. I credit my continued inspiration and motivation to help others to my father as his sacrifice on behalf of everyone provided the path toward civil rights and social justice for all immigrating to this country. I continue his legacy as a champion for positive social change through advocacy information and service. As far back as I can remember my mother stated, "Go to school to be a nurse because when people are hurting they don't care what color you are". From that moment education became a priority in my life. Following my mothers advice I managed to rise up out of the impoverished life which had handicapped the generations before me. For this reason I didn't just want to 'shelter' those whom their circumstances forced them upon my path but rather give to them as my mother had given to me which is an incentive and the opportunity to become self-sufficient through achieving a higher education. Too often, girls who could change their world for the better, are locked out of that future by the circumstances of their birth or the customs of her community and/or her country.

About This Cause

God has enjoined that “The Believers, men and women, are protectors, one of another.” Operating primarily from donations, the numbers able to be helped is directly proportional to the amount of donations received. The overlooked fact is that while millions of dollars are made in this country and sent outside to provide assistance to others, it is the women and children in this country without status, resources or family support, who are deprived and devoid of basic human rights generally afforded most. This situation has only worsened as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic. It's been reported and documented that calls from and advocates on behalf of victims of domestic violence have increased during this pandemic. With the coronavirus forcing many shelters to close down or unable to fulfill new requests victims, have been faced with limited or no option except to remain and continue to be abused. In the face of this current crisis, with your help we can continue to shelter our most vulnerable populations within our communities. While I must protect those already inside the home but to save lives, rescue and receive those fleeing abuse, any new admissions to the home must be tested negative for the virus and/or socially distanced inside a much needed second location. Inge Benevolent Ministries/Healthy Solution Wholistic Health Clinic/Muslimat Al Nisaa Shelter has strived to be an icon for over 45 years, serving the homeless and victims of domestic violence nationwide. Economic and systemic forces already had us fighting for survival. Then came the pandemic and a dramatic decline in donations. Recognizing the disparities within our community, from March of 2020, we responded to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We believe in a just world free from poverty and reached out to the homeless, the uninsured, the undocumented, the impoverished and those living in low income housing. As the months wore on, utilities, overhead, maintenance repairs along with an increase in shelter requests consumed our finances to the point that we like other businesses struggled to pay bills associated with maintaining our health clinic & domestic violence center. And although COVID Relief grants were announced and available, PPP funding from smaller and minority-owned businesses/organizations such as our organization that needed a lifeline weren’t prioritized, got lost in the shuffle and/or were denied. Unfortunately there are structural inequities which have become institutionalized and must be acknowledged and addressed. As a minority, senior citizen and now personally as coronavirus victim #12,079,153, although numerous applications were submitted, we have not received nor provided/granted/awarded the necessary financial help and support, governmental or otherwise. Funding permits restoration of programs previously in place. Coronavirus caused the lost of our clinic and our second shelter location. At this point, without major help, we will eventually join all those forced to close their doors and shut down. Our goal is to care for the underserved and uninsured. Based on the statistical data we are compelled to be able to serve those in need as a humanitarian solution for those in our communities without viable options. The current programs disproportionally distribute services and fail to focus on those who are of low income, marginalized, uninsured, homeless and/or people of color. It is this bond of love which motivates our mission to provide humanitarian community outreach to those in need and the establishment of The Muslimat Al-Nisaa Shelter Home to assist Muslim women and children in America whom have become homeless through no fault of their own, to be able to return to and/or establish self-sufficiency in their lives.
