Mission Statement

Our mission at Monkey’s House, A Dog Hospice and Sanctuary is to provide loving care to homeless dogs with terminal diagnoses or hard to adopt disabilities. Monkey's House strives to promote optimum wellness through proper medical care, nutrition, and exercise in a home setting. We provide all veterinary care needed for quality of life lived in a peaceful, rural community.

About This Cause

Senior dogs with serious health issues are one of the most at-risk population in high kill shelters today. Monkey’s House generally limits acceptance of dogs to referrals from established shelters, rescues, animal control groups, and veterinarians. We have established a strong network of shelters and resources in our local area. Dogs can be accepted with almost any medical condition, including terminal illnesses, and special consideration is given to dogs with multiple, serious medical problems. We also provide hospice care to dogs of any age. Monkey’s House currently has 22 residents, most are senior dogs. The dogs accepted into Monkey’s House are the most desperate of cases. They are victims of cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. Many were pulled within minutes of their timestamp in high kill shelters. One arrived at the House unconscious from uncontrolled diabetes and covered in blood and urine. Another had never seen the inside of a house, being chained outside with a raw and bloodied mass dangling from her belly. Some of our residents are dogs with cancer or other terminal illnesses, who had spent their life giving love to their owners, only to find themselves homeless when old and sick, in pain or incontinent. A 6-acre farm in Burlington County, NJ houses the facilities which the Monkey's House dogs call home. Providing a loving home environment for these animals is a critical component of their care, and something we take pride in here at Monkey's House. Every effort is given to address a dog’s health issues and increase the dog’s quality of life. The Sanctuary provides a permanent home with whatever medical maintenance is required. Dogs that can be returned to full and vigorous health have the opportunity to be adopted through one of our partner shelters. For those dogs whose prognosis is poor, extraordinary efforts are made to support and comfort them. When their quality of life can no longer be maintained, a final transition through euthanasia is arranged in a peaceful, home setting. Founded in 2015, Monkey’s House is a 501(c)(3) organization. We are generously supported by Dr. Judith Morgan, DVM of Clayton Veterinary Associates, and by Allprovide, a supplier of premium quality, natural dog food, along with many volunteers and donors. The exceptional guidance of Dr. Morgan and the nutrition from Allprovide has created many small miracles, returning seriously ill dogs back to a maintainable quality of life. Please visit our website and facebook page for many updates on the residents. We were fortunate to have NJTV Network and other media outlets recently do stories on Monkey’s House.
