Mission Statement

Mend on the Move, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit social enterprise, employs survivors of abuse in Metro Detroit to create jewelry which provides them with an income while in recovery. Our jewelry is crafted from salvaged auto parts and car seat leather, symbolic of our commitment to serve women locally in the Motor City.

About This Cause

Our mission is to empower and employ women who have come from a variety of abusive backgrounds (physical, sexual and emotional). Our makers learn work skills and accountability, but most importantly, they are a part of a soothing, therapeutic environment that supports and encourages, helping them to begin to see themselves as valuable contributors to society. We market our jewelry to not only provide an income for our Makers, but to also promote awareness of abuse, providing a voice for our Makers until they are strong enough to find their own. The jewelry we create, from small, salvaged automotive parts and leather from Detroit manufacturers, is edgy, industrial and innovative. It is symbolic of our commitment to serve women locally in the “Motor City”. Like Detroit, our survivor makers have faced major setbacks and challenges, yet are true overcomers. I would say one of the things our makers enjoy the most is packaging their finished pieces with our custom Mend on the Move tags. At that moment, they realize that they actually created something worthy of being purchased. That is powerful. And what they’re creating is so worthy. It’s more than just jewelry. Our employees are a part of an organization that takes a stand against abuse and empowers women to take their lives back, think differently about themselves, and come to understand they deserve so much more than what they once settled for.
