About This Cause

Bear-O Care (aka BOC) was named after Brandon 'Bear', who is 20 years old. Brandon is deaf/blind, diapered, non-verbal, fed through a tube that is surgically inserted in his stomach, and requires his intestines to be flushed out each night. When most adult children are moving out, Brandon and others like him are only increasing their dependence on aging parents. Many are left with no choice but to place their loved one in a nursing facility. Bear-O Care provides transportation for these individuals to their center in Riverton, Utah, Monday-Friday from 8am-3pm. This gives parents a break and helps to keep families intact. Bear-O Care provides high-end, personalized care for individuals who have severe, physical disabilities. The majority of clients are over the age of 22, wheelchair bound, incontinent/diapered, require assistance with eating, and need help with all factors of life. At the age of 22, school ends and there is no place for these individuals to go. Many adult centers turn them away because of their high level of needs. BOC provides assistance with all of these needs and exceeds expectations for keeping individuals active to the best of their ability. BOC is expanding services to assist parents who are caring for an individual with multiple disabilities in a foster care situation by becoming a source for respite, healthcare, education and mental wellness needs. In 2019 we are adding overnight care at our new location in Bountiful, UT. This will help parents and families get a break and have a chance to get some rest, take a vacation, or care for another family member. Your support provides discounted/free care for families who are on multi-year long government waiting lists, funding for community outings, and transportation for clients who would otherwise be unable to attend.
