Mission Statement
Beck's Place is a community and relationship based organization that serves low income families facing issues such as poverty, addiction, and domestic violence. Our primary objective is keep families together, inclusive of their pets. Our services are designed around meeting the basic needs of both humans and pets in an effort to honor the life changing bond an animal has on our human families and limit the barriers humans have in engaging in services because it would require them to surrender their pet.
About This Cause
Foster Boarding Program - This is a unique program in that we board and care for animals whose owners are temporarily faced with challenges that make it difficult or impossible for them to care for their pet. Many of our clients will not choose to engage in much needed services if it means giving up their animals permanently as these animals are often their only consistent love and affection in a life filled with much trauma. We are part of life changing decisions as addicts seek treatment and domestic violence victims seek safety knowing that their pet family is safe, loved and will be reunited with them. Funds for this program are used to provide for the direct care of the animals (food, supplies, vet care) and supporting costs such as transportation. Community Action Project (CAP) - CAP is an open-air market for low income families. We intentionally structure the event to include a donation drop-off station during the same time. We provide food, coffee and music to continuously build community and expose donors and Beck's families to each other in an effort to humanize the many social issues in our area and build mutual respect and friendship across socioeconomic and racial divides. We provide human hygiene and cleaning supplies that aren't covered by food stamps, clothing, outdoor living items for the homeless and pet food/supplies. Funds for this program are used to supplement items not supplied by donations. Vet Clinics - We currently hold a vet clinic in partnership with a local vet. Like CAP, we structure the event so it co-occurs with an already established community offering. An animal provides a powerful means to break down barriers too easily put up by humans. At the same time, our family's pets are receiving much needed wellness care to keep them healthy and financial pressure is relieved so our families can focus on other much needed priorities. Our families pay what they can and we subsidize the rest. Funds for this program are used to pay for the direct vet care costs of the animals.
