Mission Statement
The Vanport Mosaic is a platform for memory activism. We amplify, honor, present, and preserve the silenced histories that surround us in order to understand our present and envision a new chapter where we all belong.
About This Cause
We offer year-long programming: oral history recording and screenings, original theater, tours, exhibits, presentations and dialogues - culminating in the annual Vanport Mosaic Festival that has received the Spirit of Portland Award, the Columbia Slough Watershed Council’s Achievement Award, and the Oregon Heritage Excellence Award. The Vanport Mosaic honors the experience of traditionally underrepresented and under-heard communities of color by surfacing, celebrating and maintaining their cultural and historical memories. The National Trust for Historic Preservation/Telling The Full Story Fund recently awarded Vanport Mosaic as one of 80 organizations nationwide using historic places as catalysts for a more just and equitable society, showcasing the multi layered intersections of underrepresented communities of people
