Mission Statement
Children's Hospital & Medical Center was founded in 1948 by Dr. C.W.M. Poynter and the Henry Doorly family (publisher of the Omaha World-Herald). Their vision, which continues to guide us today, was to establish a hospital specifically for children that would provide services regardless of the family's ability to pay. Children's excels at offering a child-focused healing environment for families and patients in fulfillment of our mission, "So that all children may have a better chance to live."
About This Cause
Children’s Hospital & Medical Center is recognized as a 2012-2013 Best Children’s Hospital by U.S. News & World Report in cardiology and heart surgery, and cancer. It is the only full-service, pediatric health care center in Nebraska providing expertise in more than 30 pediatric specialty services to children across a five-state region and beyond. Located in Omaha, the 145-bed, non-profit hospital operates the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the region and offers 24-hour, in-house services by pediatric critical care specialists. Patients are referred to Children’s for pediatric primary care and the treatment of complex or unusual diseases. In 2013, Children's recorded 390,100 patient visits. This number includes approximately 7,900 children who were admitted as inpatients and 112,900 children who were treated through the emergency department, urgent care centers, outpatient surgery center and specialty clinics.
