Mission Statement

The Kansas Learning Center for Health is a 501c3 non-profit museum and the 2nd oldest health museum in the nation. KLCH purpose is to perpetuate the humanitarian dedication in medical practice of Dr. Arthur E. Hertzler by educating the public by creating and providing programs and hands-on exhibits that supply health information. KLCH motto "Education for a Healthy Life."

About This Cause

For nearly 50 years, the Kansas Learning Center for Health (KLCH) has supplied educators and visitors of all ages with a full-service museum that includes hands-on exhibits and instructive materials related to science and health. KLCH is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and the second oldest health education museum in the nation. Dedicated to keeping people well, the mission for the KLCH is “To be a premiere regional resource for quality health education.” The purpose of the Museum is “Educating the public by creating and providing programs and hands-on exhibits that supply health information.” A twenty-nine member Board of Directors oversees the organization that includes representatives from the fields of Medicine, Business, Education, Legal and Ministry. The Center’s annual budget is $480,000 and is supported by private donations, grants, bequest, memorials and sponsorships. The staff consists of four (4) Certified Teachers, two (2) Registered Nurses, one (1) Administrator and two (2) Support Staff. All instructors at the Center have received extensive training in teaching health education. The 17 preventative health programs offered meet or exceed Kansas Science Education Standards, National Health Education Standards and Kansas School Counseling Standards. These programs enhance the Museum’s exhibit hall and provide a visual resource in understanding the human body. In addition to its role as a health and science museum, KLCH offers educational programs at the Halstead facility and provides outreach programs to schools, community centers and organizations that want to increase their knowledge of preventive healthcare. Each year KLCH serves around 15,000 individuals, 95% of the individuals served are children in grades Kindergarten through 12th grades, from 17 different counties throughout Kansas.
